Teller's Programming Model
Teller Elementary has an “integrated” model for our magnet school program, meaning gifted and talented students are clustered with other gifted students and integrated in traditional, mixed ability classrooms. Gifted students at Teller are supported in their classrooms by their homeroom teachers in conjunction with the gifted and talented specialist. Teller teachers are using the full range of strategies that are commonly recommended for gifted students: curriculum compacting, enrichment/extensions, flexible groupings, acceleration, pull-out and push-in services, independent study, and, in a few cases, mentorships.
Parent Communication
Teller parents receive updates on their children's process through the identification steps and/or assessment dates and results via email and/or letters sent home in Thursday folders. All of the district level activities for families or Teller updates and activities are posted in Teller family communications including the weekly PridePost, grade level newsletters, and the Teller app.
2019-2020 Programming Goal
Teller's main focus is expanding all our teachers' knowledge and skills necessary to serve the gifted and talented students. Teller has started introducing project based learning and integrated curriculum units into the classroom as a way to provide extensions and different learning modalities and opportunities for all learners.
